I hope this message finds you well. As a reminder, our 7th Grade Confirmation Parent and Student Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 13th, from 6:30–7:45 PM at St. Luke Church. This meeting is for all 7th grade families in the Lakewood Catholic Parishes as we begin our two-year journey of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation preparation begins in the 7th grade and continues through the 8th grade, with the Sacrament being celebrated in the spring of the 8th grade year. For our 7th graders, there will be two Life Night gatherings this year:
• Thursday, November 13th, 6:30–7:45 PM at St. Luke
• Thursday, March 5th, 6:30–7:45 PM at St. Luke
If your student is unable to attend one of these sessions, that is perfectly fine.
The Purpose of the Program
Our Confirmation program is designed to provide a spiritual complement to the theological and academic formation your child is already receiving at Lakewood Catholic Academy and in PSR. These evenings of prayer, formation, and fellowship are intended to deepen their personal encounter with Christ and their understanding of the life of the Church.
General Program Outline
Life Night Meeting (Once per Semester)
Candidates meet once per semester by grade level for a spiritual Life Night that includes prayer, praise and worship, and a brief talk focused on faith and discipleship.
Works of Mercy (Service Component)
Each candidate completes a personal work of mercy as part of their formation. There are no required service hour minimums, but students should be able to connect their act of service to one of the Corporal or Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Spiritual Reflection
After completing their service, candidates will write a short one-page reflection on how their experience helped them live out their faith.
8th Grade Confirmation Retreat
In 8th grade, students will attend a weekend retreat at Damascus Catholic Mission Campus in Centerburg, Ohio — a powerful, faith-filled environment designed to help young people encounter Christ in a deeply personal way. Through dynamic worship, inspiring talks, small group community, and Eucharistic Adoration, students consistently describe this retreat as a turning point in their faith journey.
Sponsor Component
Throughout the two-year program, each student will work closely with their sponsor through guided conversations and shared faith experiences.
*Information regarding the works and mercy, reflection, and sponsor component will be emailed later in the year.
