Believe it or not, we're only four weeks away from opening night of the spring musical! (not counting spring break - which I'm not). Rehearsals are going great, but a LOT has to happen to tie everything together in four weeks. And the fact that the 5/6 are out 2 days next week and the 7ths 3 days the following week doesn't help!
So first off, below is a master rehearsal calendar for the remaining four weeks that will help you to see when kids are needed and for what times. These are somewhat variable due to class trips and such. If a student or crew member can't make a called rehearsal, please let me know in advance.
Secondly, due to a scheduling problem, we had to tweak our SHOW dates just a touch too! These are noted on the new calendars, but in short, we now open on FRIDAY APRIL 22nd, still have our Sunday the 24th matinee and Tuesday night show the 26th, but now close on WEDNESDAY the 27th (with a cast party slated for Thursday the 28th). I hope this doesn't cause any problems, but it was a necessary change.
And lastly, musicals are complicated and have many moving parts, so there are many ways parents can help with the show - and we certainly need and welcome the help! So to start, I'm including a list of many set items and props we need for the show below. If you can provide any of these, please either shoot me an email or a picture of said item. I'd like to get as many of these things in before spring break if possible so the crew can begin to practice moving and planning for their strategic location backstage.
In terms of costumes, I am renting the nun's costumes (and some others) from my usual source, Floyd Central HS in Indiana (Later we will include an electronic form which has a place for voluntary costume donations as well as tickets, supporting lines, and more). For many other costumes, families ought to be able to provide their own and kids can ask Ms Ponzio for help in that area.
With that, here is the list of set items, larger props, and a few costume things that we need:
A set of matching choir robes (for kids!)
Poker or Card table (small, lightweight)
2 old fashioned, metal type trash cans with lids. Do they still exist??
Two candelabras with candles
Ten Hymnals
(Basically anything decorative from a church!)
Wooden benches (4 or so)
Two matching solid colored tablecloths for long lunchroom tables
A decorative folding screen (something to represent the dividing wall of a confessional booth!)
A set of matching wooden bowls for the nuns, wooden spoons (10 or so)
A stew pot for the nun's lunch to go with the bowls, ladle
Small old fashioned tv with rabbit ears
Small cot and blanket for a nun's room
Gift box with a blue fur or stole inside!
Conductor's baton
Some rosaries for the nuns
Cop handcuffs (we may have some of those on hand here)
Any 70s clothing, hats, jackets, shoes, etc. (bell bottoms, polyester clothing, etc.
Anything related to Philadelphia!
And here is the call for this week:
Tuesday, March 22nd EVERYONE IS CALLED to work on the finale of the show. As I told the students Friday, I don't need ALL the crew members for each rehearsal yet, but 3 or so would be nice. They can work that out among themselves. We do need lights, sound, at all rehearsals now.
WEDNESDAY, March 23rd (Wed instead of Thursday due to the 5ths and 6ths being out on Thursday and Friday!)
Pages 58 - 78 All nuns, Deloris,Mother Superior, Monsignor, Altar Boys, Chorus, Eddie and the Gangsters
Friday, March 25th. This is a short rehearsal until 4:45 for just these characters as I am staying through for the 7th Grade Movie Night and want to grab a little bit of bonus rehearsal time! At 4:45 kids will either need to be picked up or go to Homework Hall.
Deloris, Mother Superior, Monsignor
Thanks!
Reed
