If you meet these qualifications, please consider submitting your paper to me by August 15th at lstern@collin.edu to be considered for this award. Entries will be judged by select members of the Program Committee and the Review Committee. The winner will be announced by early autumn and will be encouraged to submit a polished version of his/her paper to the Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences which publishes papers of roughly 13,000 words. If asked by the recipient of the award, members of Cheiron will gladly provide feedback on the work and assistance in preparing it for submission. If the paper is accepted by JHBS for publication, the winner will receive a $500 honorarium from the publisher, Wiley-Blackwell, in recognition of the Cheiron Young Scholar Award. Please note that the award committee may choose not to grant an award in any given year and that the honorarium depends upon publication in JHBS.
Papers presented in the usual session format – running 20 minutes long – are typically between 3,000 to 4,000 words. However, the committee will accept submissions that go beyond this limit. You may extend the paper that you presented by incorporating feedback from discussions during the meetings, providing additional documentation, and an extended bibliography.
In some cases, presentations were based on longer completed chapters. Should this be the case, you may submit the longer paper – often, but not always, based on dissertation chapters – but the committee hopes that, in either case, the submitted paper not greatly exceed 7,500 words, excluding footnotes and bibliography.
Cheiron prides itself on fostering collegiality among its members, proving feedback to its members hard at work developing their research, and recognizing interesting and evocative research. If you qualify, please consider submitting your work for Cheiron’s Young Scholar Award no later than August 15, 2021. Send it to Larry Stern, Executive Officer of Cheiron, at lstern@collin.edu.
Have a happy, restful, and productive summer!
